Little Red Balloon

I am usually natural,

only find myself in

but if I were synthetic

right now,

I’d be a

little red balloon

filled with helium

with a long white

ribbon attached

on a

sort of day.

I am light

for once

and colorful,

the light

sneaking away

from an old life

and hope,

not helium,

lifting me

lifting me

I have been here before

but each time been stopped

because of that long

white ribbon,

usually caught by

another who pulls me

back down,

but also by

the brick of guilt

attached to me.

Then my hope

of freedom

Again I am on that

upward ascent.

Please, God,

don’t let anyone

catch the ribbon,

please give me the

courage to cut

my own tether

to that brick

that shackles me

to this spot.

For my heart is this

little red balloon,

and it was meant

to soar.

    1. So glad you loved it, and thank you so much for the reblog! I’m in the follow-through phase (again) with the logistics of moving on and have been thinking of literally keeping a red balloon in front of me or getting it tattooed. I’m way too nice, morally conflicted, and easily manipulated.

  7. your words gave me goosebumps…if only we could ALL cut that tether binding us to that which checks our inner flight. and then, conversely, to find that which grounds us…the balance is there somewhere, i’m hoping…

    1. Goosebumps is the highest level of achievement: I’m honored. 🙂 I hope to land and freely anchor where I was meant to…
